Obeetee has continued to be a pioneer in hand-woven rugs, and the epitome of design excellence. Their exclusive collection is a representation of various cultures, driven by superior design and high-grade craftsmanship; and the inspiration behind our collaboration.
Obeetee rugs and their “PROUD TO BE INDIAN COLLECTION” by Tarun Tahiliani and Abraham and Thakore are available at our store, hand-picked for you to delve into the brilliance and expertise that this collaboration brings
In 2017, Obeetee collaborated with Tarun Tahiliani to unveil the first ever India inspired limited edition rugs collection. The collection, cantered on the ‘Proud to be Indian’ theme, showcases quintessential Indian designs for the first time in the country’s artistic rug heritage.
Excerpt from Obeetee “These magnificent rugs start their journey at the hands of some of OBEETEE’s most skilled weavers, who were carefully chosen for this challenging task. These old hands came with decades of experience and in-depth knowledge of their craft.
The top-notch construction of these carpets called for specific skill set – over 150 knots per square inch, and this set of handpicked weavers did complete justice to the assigned job. Hand knotted in silk and imported wool, these rugs are an ultimate experience in luxury. Each one is unique in its patterns, colors, and textures.”
Seamlessly blending the traditional and contemporary, these carpets designed by Tarun for Obeetee are a nod to India’s glorious heritage and to her vibrant present. As the name suggests, Antique Frames is based on the borders painted in the most elaborate refinement, on the periphery of most Indian/ Mughal miniature paintings. Each rug encapsulates the mood and is finished with a distressed look to reflect the patina of that era. The rich color palette celebrates lively tones like Indian reds, burgundies, and rusts. They glorify the traditional embroidery art of chikankari; the blocks, have been sourced from the cornices of the local architecture and have jaals and vines from the Persian gardens. Canvases painted by the designer himself inspire the third segment. S-Tex is proud to Carry these collections at our Studio
Abraham and Thakore
In 2018, OBEETEE, launched the second edition of the ‘Proud To Be Indian’ series with Abraham & Thakore, one of India’s most successful fashion and design houses. The new handcrafted rug collection fuses traditional techniques with a bold, contemporary color palette and edgy artistry.
The Abraham & Thakore collection for OBEETEE celebrates modern India and its global impact today, while embracing the country’s rich heritage in textile design and weaving traditions which touches upon some of India’s fascinating elements: the borders of vintage saris from Kanchipuram, block prints from Sanganer, and timeless tie-dye Bandhani from Kutch, Rangrez, Bandhej, Maheshwari and Chettinad in silk and wool blend rugs. Designs also are influenced by double Ikat Telia Rumals geometry and the art of calligraphy.
OBEETEE, says, “With projects such as this one with Abraham & Thakore, we will continue to make fine rugs, but using a new palette derived from the exceptional talent of our partners. We want to give our consumers high-end carpets that are not mass-produced. It took OBEETEE’s best weavers more than a year to weave one carpet. The carpets are hand-knotted using different yarns and finishes. These bespoke, limited edition rugs are made to adorn the homes of their proud owners for generations.
